What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a group of fibrous metamorphic materials used in older building projects for its fire retardant properties. The most commonly found type of asbestos in buildings and residential structures is called Chrysotile, otherwise known as “white asbestos”. Chrysotile is mostly formed from Canadian serpentine rock, enabling it to be less friable and less likely to be inhaled.
Side effects of asbestos
The side effects of asbestos can be very serious. One of the main health hazards related to asbestos is lung tissue cancer, and/or mesothelioma, a cancer that infects the thin membrane that surrounds the lungs and other internal organs. Symptoms do not develop immediately following exposure to asbestos, but only after a number of years later.
Materials that typically contain asbestos:
Acoustic ceiling (otherwise known as “popcorn” or “cottage cheese”)
Drywall joint compound
Vinyl floor tile
Tile adhesive or mastic
Fire-proofing material
Ventilation and/or heat ducting, and transit piping
Stucco
Roof Penetrations
Services we provide:
Obtain all necessary permits from OSHA and SCAQMD for asbestos removal
